Political violence claims 67 lives in 2018: ASK

A total of 67 people were killed and 7287 others injured in 701 incidents of political violence in 2018, according to a local independent rights body.

The figures were up from 52 killed and 4,816 injured in 364 incidents of such violence in 2017, said the Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) in its report published recently.

The rights body attributed the deaths and injuries to clashes 
between political parties and law enforcers, and infighting.

Among the political parties, the ruling Awami League witnessed the highest number of its activists killed as a result of political violence in 2018.

According to the report, as many as 41 activists of Awami League, nine of BNP, one of Jatiya Party, one Ansar member, and 15 general people were killed due to political violence in last year.
