Bangladesh Railway (BR) has barred travelling trains with tickets purchased by different name than that of the passenger and reselling of the purchased tickets to others in a bid to check illegal trading of online tickets at black market.

Since the BR introduced cent per cent online selling of its available intercity trains amid the coronavirus pandemic, it has been receiving allegations of selling train tickets by different quarters at the black market.

In a notice signed by Senior Information Officer of Ministry of Railway Mohammad Shariful Alam on Thursday, it is mentioned that none of the purchased tickets, return tickets or rout wise tickets is transferable.

Tickets purchased through online by the names of the passenger themselves can only be used to avail the service against specific place and route. Selling or buying of such tickets are a punishable offence, according to the notification.

“If anyone hands over or sell the tickets of personal travelling, return tickets or monthly tickets after purchasing those by his or her name, he or she will be imprisoned for three months. The person who would buy such tickets will be fined with the amount payable for another ticket,” it added.

The BR has instructed all to buy train tickets through online using website or app and refrain from travelling train with the tickets purchased by another person.
