Leaders of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) have called for resolving some prevailing problems to boost trade, commerce to accelerate development in the region.
They made the call at a views-sharing meeting of the RCCI leaders with Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Shubhasish Basu at RCCI boardroom on Saturday, a press release said on Sunday.
President of RCCI Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu presided over the event participated by officials of the Ministry of Commerce, RCCI leaders, industrialists, entrepreneurs, exporters, importers, traders and
businesspersons of Rangpur region.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Badrul Hasan Babul and Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Khondker Mohammad Nurul Amin also attended the meeting, said BSS.
RCCI Senior Vice-president Moztoba Hossain Ripan, exporters and importers Mogreb Ali, Humayun Kabir Saodagar and Alhaj Moyen Uddin and Officer-in-Charge at local office of the Controller of Imports and Exports Shafiul Alam, spoke, among others.
The speakers called for developing the roads at Burimari and Banglabandha land ports to 4-lane and extension of transshipment yards and setting up testing laboratories and reducing handling charges at these land ports.
They suggested for quicker activation of BBIN road connectivity, setting up offices of the ExportPromotion Bureau (EPB) and Joint Stocks Companies and Firms at Rangpur, modernisation of rail communications for transportation of goods to promote export-import activities in the region.
RCCI President Titu put emphasis on infrastructural development, institutional reforms and resolving fuel problems to attract investments and promote international trade and commerce in Rangpur region.
He called for creating investment-friendly atmosphere in the region by improving road and rail communications, upgrading Banglabandha and Burimari land ports to full-fledged land ports, setting up of special economic zones, formulation of separate industrial, VAT, tax and loan policies for the region.
He asked the businesspeople to speed up economic activities by availing the government facilities and setting up of 100 special economic zones to create jobs in building a middle income nation by 2021.
