Three killed in road accidents in two districts

At least three people were killed and five others injured in two separate road accidents in Chandpur and Barguna districts on Friday.

In Chandpur, two people were killed after a pickup van collided with an autorickshaw in Sadar upazila of the district today (Friday).

The accident that occurred on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway near Ghosherhat's Miyarbazar at 9.30 am on Friday also left two people injured, said Abdur Rashid, chief of Chandpur Model Police Station.

The dead were identified as Fatema Alam, 24, and Abdullah, 25, from Hajiganj, reports bdnews24.com.

The autorickshaw was going to Chandpur city from Hajiganj, while the pickup van was heading to Hajiganj.

A total of four passengers, including Fatema and Abdullah, were on their way to Chandpur Al Amin School and College to attend a recruitment exam for teaching positions at government primary schools.

Fatema died at the scene. Three others were taken to Chandpur Government General Hospital where the doctors declared Abdullah dead.

Both drivers of the pickup and the autorickshaw have fled.

In Barguna, a 40-year-old man was killed and three others injured as a three-wheeler carrying goods overturned at Pazrabhanga in Sadar upazila of the district, police said on Friday.

Deceased, Selim Gharami of Madartali village, was travelling by the three-wheeler, reports UNB.

Ali Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Sadar Police Station, said that the incident occurred at around 9:00 pm on Thursday as the speeding three-wheeler hit a speed breaker and lost control. It overturned into a roadside field killing Selim on the spot and injuring three others.

 One injured has been sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition, he said.

The driver of the three-wheeler escaped, the OC added.
