Three to walk gallows over Rajshahi school boy murder

A speedy tribunal has awarded death penalty to three people and life term imprisonment to one for killing a school boy in Rajshahi.

The condemned convicts are Majedur Rahman Sagor,19, son of Abul Kashem, Nazmul Haque, 20, son of Hazrat Ali and Ripon Sarkar Liton, 20, son of Abdul Razzak, while the lifer is Asinur Begum, 32 of the area.

Public prosecutor of the case Entazul Haque Babu said Rajshahi Speedy Tribunal Judge Justice Shireen Kabita Akhtar handed down the verdict in the presence of the convicts around 3:00pm on Tuesday, reports UNB.

According to the prosecution, the convicts abducted Fazle Hossain Rabbi, a third grade student of Berabari Government Primary School and son of Ali Hossain, a resident of Berabari area in Mohanpur upazila of the district on December 20, 2014.

Later, they killed Rabbi, put his body in a sack and dumped it at a paddy field.

They demanded Tk 1.0 million as ransom from the victim's father for his (Rabbi's) release.

Ali Hossain filed general diary with Mohanpur Police Station on that day and police took it as a case on December 24.

Police recovered the beheaded body of Rabbi from the paddy field on December 26 of the year.

Following a phone call police arrested the convicts and produced them before the court where Sagor and Asinur gave the confessional statement to the court.

After examining the records and witness, the tribunal handed down the verdict.
