Top ten cos share 28pc transaction

United Power leads DSE turnover chart

United Power Generation & Distribution Company (UPGD) dominated the Dhaka bourse's transaction chart while top ten traded companies accounted for about 28 per cent of the transaction on Tuesday.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 1.05 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 352 million, which was 4.80 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover.

The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 7.32 billion, which was 19 per cent higher than the previous day's Tk 6.14 billion.

The power generation company's share price hovered between Tk 323 and Tk 343.90 each, before closing at Tk 341, advancing 6.66 per cent over the previous day.

United Power's share price also touched the highest level of Tk 343.90 each on Tuesday after listing with the Dhaka bourse.

United Power was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2015 under book building method.

Recently, the board of directors of United Power has decided to acquire two power plants of the United Group having generation capacity of 195 MW and 53 MW power respectively.

Brokers said investors showed enthusiasm following the news coupled with higher dividend expectation ahead.

The company disbursed 90 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.

The company's paid-up capital is 3.99 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 399.24 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company while institutional investors 6.16 per cent and the general public 3.84 per cent as on June 30, 2018.

The company's nine months earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 8.41 for July 2017 to March 2018 as against Tk 8.05 for July 2016-March 2017.

In the nine months of the current fiscal year, the company's total revenue stood at Tk 4.54 billion and the company made a profit of Tk 3.35 billion (un-audited).

The net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 37.71 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 37.47 as on June 30, 2017.

The net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 8.0 for July 2017 to March 2018 as against Tk 8.60 for the same period of the previous year.

Apart from United Power, other most active shares in terms of value included BBS Cables with Tk 265 million, Fortunes Shoes Tk 255 million, Saiham Textile Tk 237 million, Singer Bangladesh Tk 181 million, KDS Accessories Tk 175 million.

The Peninsula Chittagong was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 170 million changing hands. It was followed by Legacy Footwear Tk 147 million, Simtex Industries Tk 134 million and Monno Ceramic Industries Tk 130 million.
