Team Proactive organised ‘Race for Oceans in Bangladesh – A sustainable approach to save waterbodies’ at Capital’s Shagufta Lake, Mirpur DOHS on November 25.

The event was part of a global campaign for plastic-free oceans series named ‘Race for Oceans.’

Along with the organisers, the event was a collaboration with Race for Oceans Foundation and UNLEASH, two non-governmental organisations that work to achieve the goal of clean water and sustainable earth under ‘SDG 14: Life in Oceans.’

Bestseller Foundation was also a partner in this event. It promotes sponsorship deals around the world through which they drove this event a step ahead. The theme was to remove plastic from waterbodies, which was successfully accomplished.

Volunteer Opportunities worked as a promotion and outreach partner by providing volunteers.

The daylong local awareness event consisted of three different categories of activities including knowledge sharing activity, cleaning session and sports activity.

The participants were people from the local community and around 50 children. The spontaneous participation of the children made the event colourful.

After a focus group discussion with a view to clarifying the agenda of the event, various types of posters were presented by the organisers. Then a quiz session took place among the children. The children were 5-10 years of age mostly.

Following the quiz, volunteers and the community people participated in a cleaning activity. They collected wastes and dumped them into bin bags.

The event ended with sports activities. ‘Tug of war’ and some local sports were conducted accordingly.

A large number of children also participated in the activities. The participation of children in the initiative was appreciated by the locals.
