Dramas that are based on small-town settings are often capable of having the most twisted setups of all possible genres.
‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein,’ Netflix’s recent Indian drama is no exception and within a very short period of time, it has been extremely popular and has become the top trending series in Bangladesh.
The story is about an engineering graduate named Vikrant, who, getting tired of his monotonous life in a fictional small town named Onkara, wants to begin a new life somewhere else. But with the turn of a few events, he gets trapped by Purva, who is the daughter of a very influential politician in that small town.
Vikrant does not like these advances made by Purva as he tries to get rid of her in order to begin a new life with his girlfriend Shikha.
The story revolves around various events concerning them with a typical Bollywoodsque story.
The plot would seem quite a cliche and pretty stereotypical but would definitely hook the viewer to the screen to the point that one would not be able to leave the series in the middle of it.
The ambience of the series does a very good job in portraying the Gangetic plain of India i.e. the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and the socio-economic realities of those places.
The story has some plot twists in the middle and somehow resonates with the thriller genre to the end. There is also a song of the same name as the series which has received a lot of acclaims.
The drama is, in no way, any aesthetically superior art series and it does not even claim to be such.
It is a drama that one would automatically delve deep and binge watch without even having to put too much concentration on and is a must-watch for people looking for a series of that very genre.
