Awami League has to take responsibility for the rape of a woman in Noakhali's Subarnachar Upazila, said leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Women Cell on Saturday.
"AL cannot deny its responsibility as a political party since its cadres raped the woman who voted for sheaf of paddy (BNP's electoral symbol)," said Masuda Khan, leader of CPB Women Cell. She was addressing a human chain the cell organised to protest against the Noakhali rape.
CPB leaders said justice must be ensured for the victim, claiming that those accused in rape cases were often released on bail within days of their arrest, reports UNB.
Seven men, including an AL leader, were arrested over the gang rape of the woman in the early hours of December 31.
