At least 20 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of a ward-level Awami League (AL) leader and a Union Parishad (UP) member over establishing supremacy at Bogargout village in sadar upazila in Narsingdi on Friday morning.
Supporters of Bogargout ward AL president Kamal Mia and Karimpur UP member Bacchu Mia locked into the clash following a long-running dispute over establishing supremacy in the area around 7am, said Mozaffor Hossain, OC of Narsingdi Model Police Station.
At one stage, both the parties swooped on each other along with sharp weapons including harpoons triggering the scuffle that left 20 people from both groups injured.
Of them, 13 sustained harpoon injuries, said the OC, reports UNB.
Law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 9am, police said.
Later, some of the injured were rushed to nearby Narshingdi Sadar Hospital while others to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex in Narayanganj to avoid arrest.
No case was lodged in this connection till filing of the report.
