Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif has said the BNP's demand for caretaker government is illogical.
"Election Commission (EC) was able to hold several elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner under the present government, so the BNP's demand for a caretaker government is not logical at all," he said on Friday.
The lawmaker and AL leader was speaking as the chief guest while laying the foundation stones of Rahima-Afsar Academic building coinciding a reception programme to the peoplewho raised the national flag for the first time at Kushtia Islamia College premises during the Liberation War.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim was present as the special guest at the function chaired by President of Kushtia Islamia College's governing body Muhammad Shamsur Rahman Babu.
According to BSS, Hanif said people have to know the background of caretaker government movement in 1996 when BNP destroyed the election system by rigging votes.
"The countrymen were compelled to stage a movement for caretaker government, but now the EC is able to hold fair election," he said.
