Buses on Monday morning resumed services after more than two months of suspension in efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The presence of passengers is thin in Dhaka city while the number of passengers leaving the capital pales in comparison to that, according to local media reports.

Buses are to carry passengers half their capacity by charging fares 60 per cent more than their previous ones, according to government directives and health safety guidelines.

Samdani Khandakar, office secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association, said they have provided their drivers and staffers with masks and gloves to maintain their health safety on the roads.

He sought cooperation from passengers in maintaining the overall health safety guidelines during the bus service.

The government on Thursday announced to resume public transport services on a limited scale, which they suspended from March 26, maintaining all health guidelines.
