The government has suspended a total of 85 public representatives until Tuesday last for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of relief materials meant for the poor during the coronavirus pandemic.
The local government, rural development and co-operatives ministry took actions against them on directives from the prime minister.
The ministry in its ongoing fight against corrupt public representatives suspended on Tuesday four more chairmen, six more members of different union councils and one councillor of a pourashava.
The ministry took legal action against them as per section 34(1) of Local Government (Union Parishad) Act 2009.
Among suspended public representatives, 28 were chairmen while 51 were members of different union councils, one member of district council, four councillors of different pourashavas and one upazila parishad vice chairman.
A high official of the ministry concerned told the FE that suspended public representatives were asked to reply to show causes as to why they should not be suspended from their posts permanently within next ten working days.
The latest suspended public representatives are: chairman of Singpur union parishad under Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj Md Anwarul Haque, chairman of Halimpur UP under Bajitpur upazila of the same district Md Kamal Bhuiyan, chairman of Balitola UP of Barguna Md Shah Newaz and chairman of Noltola UP of the same district Md Humayun Kabir.
Suspended members are: Ward No. 2 of Majlishpur UP of Brahmanbaria Md Harris Mia, Ward No. 6 of Boalkhali pourashava of Chattogram Md Solaiman Babul, Ward No. 7 of Noltola UP of Barguna Md Harun Mia, Ward No. 8 member of the same UP Md Hanif.
