The government on Friday said it will lower the age limit for the Covid-19 vaccination to 18 years from the existing 30 years.
Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director-general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), told the press that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to drop the vaccination age limit to 18 years.
The DGHS is working on it to incorporate the instruction, he said.
“The decision will be announced soon”.
Family members of the under 18 Covid-19 front liners will be vaccinated first on a priority basis, while other citizens below the age of 18 will be vaccinated gradually, he added.
The DG said these while visiting the Mugda General Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital and Mohakhali Gastroliver Hospital in the capital.
Aproximately 97 per cent of the patients, most of whom are 50 plus and are admitted to these hospitals, did not get vaccinated, the DG added.
Earlier on July 15, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said the government had planned to bring the age limit of vaccination down to 18 years to inoculate the students as a matter of priority.
