BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is 'willing to travel abroad to receive advanced medical treatment if she gets bail'.
BNP's Joint Secretary General Md Harunur Rashid, also a lawmaker, gave the information while speaking to the media after visiting Khaleda Zia at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka on Tuesday, report bdnews24.com and UNB.
Two other lawmakers of BNP --- Advocate Abdus Sattar and Aminul Islam --- accompanied Harun during the visit. Khaleda is undergoing treatment at the government facility under the supervision of the jail authorities.
Harun reiterated the party’s demand for her “immediate” transfer to a specialised hospital, describing her health.
“She (Khaleda) needs better treatment immediately at a specialised hospital abroad for the physical problems she’s facing now. I call upon the government not to deprive her of the right to get bail,” BNP leader Harun said.
Harun said now Khaleda Zia’s top priority is her medical treatment, and there is no such specialised hospital in Bangladesh to provide proper treatment to her under her current fragile health condition.
Asked whether Khaleda wants to go abroad for treatment, he said, “She’ll surely go abroad if she gets a scope for treatment. If she gets bail today, she’ll go abroad tomorrow.”
Khaleda has been serving altogether 17 years in jail since February last year and receiving treatment at the BSDMMU since April 1 last.
