Police in a drive detained a total of 16 local leaders and activists of BNP from Goalbazar union parishad chairman's residence under Osmani Nagar upazila in Sylhet on Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained them while they were conducting a secret meeting around 10:00pm, said Md Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station.
The arrestees are Osmani Nagar Upazila BNP ex-president Syed Motahir Ali, General Secretary and Dayamir UP Chairman STM Fakhar Uddin, Upazila Vice-chairman Gayas Mia, Goalbazar Union BNP President Syed Kawsar Ahmad, activists Sirajul Islam, Kayes Ahmed Chowdhury, Irshad Uddin Zillu, Abdul Mannan, Kamal Ahmed Parvez, Hadis Khan, Kamru Mia, Sarjan Mia, Sharif Ahmad Chowdhury, Abdu Kalam, Chhatra Dal joint conveners Rakib Ali and Atiqul Alam, reports UNB.
