Bangladesh scored a respectable total of 261 runs for all in 49.3 overs in the first match of their Group B Asia Cup 2018 encounter against Sri Lanka at Dubai on Saturday.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a nightmarish start losing the wickets of Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan for just 1 run on the board in the very first over.

To add insult to injury, Tamim Iqbal retired hurt with a wrist injury scoring three runs.

After the initial hiccup, M Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim stabilised the innings.

But after the fall of Mithun, bangladesh started to lose wickets at regular intervals. Eventually Mushfiq’s heroics helped the Tigers post a fighting total.

Mushfiq top scored with a brilliant knock of 144 runs while Mithun scored 63.

Lasith Malinga took 4 wickets for 23 runs while De Silva took 2 for 38 for the Lankans.
