Tigers beat Windies to claim biggest ever Test win, Miraz bags 12 wickets

Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 12-wicket haul in the Dhaka Test has brought Bangladesh a massive win by an innings and 184 runs against the West Indies.

Miraz picked up his fifth wicket of the second innings by dismissing JA Warrican. He had earlier taken a career-best 7-58 in the first innings to force the West Indies to follow-on.

The performance broke Bangladesh's Test match record with 12-117 over the course of two innings. Miraz had held the previous record with 12-159 against England.

Shimron Hetmyer, one of his victims, had been the only major obstacle to the Tigers' first innings win in Test, posting 93. A late 37* from Kemar Roach finally took West Indies to 213 in the second innings after they took the follow-on.

This match was the first time Bangladesh has ever enforced a follow-on, reports bdnews24.

Taijul Islam picked up three wickets, while Nayeem Hasan has one. Shakib Al Hasan took the wicket of West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite to add to his three in the first innings.

Bangladesh had taken control of the match on the second day, posting a total of 508 thanks to a century from Mahmudullah and then picking up five quick wickets to demolish the visitors’ top order before the end of play.

Day 2

Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled through the West Indies top order to compound a difficult day for the visitors.

Earlier in the day Mahmudullah has scored his third Test century, achieving a career best of 136 to take the Tigers to a massive total of 508.

Bangladesh also saw half-centuries from debutant Shadman Islam (76), captain Shakib Al Hasan (80) and Liton Das (53).

Kemar Roach, Devendra Bishoo, Jomel Warrican and captain Kraigg Brathwaite picked up a couple of wickets each for the West Indies, while Shermon Lewis and Roston Chase split the remaining two.

Bangladeshi captain Shakib then opened up proceedings during the West Indies innings by taking the wicket of his counterpart Kraigg Brathwaite in the first over.

He later picked up the wicket of Sunil Ambris (7).

Miraz, for his part, picked off Kieran Powell (4), Shai Hope (10) and Roston Chase (0).

All of the batsmen were bowled out.

At stumps on the second day, West Indies were at 75-5, trailing Bangladesh by 433 runs.

Day 1

Debuting batsman Shadman Islam and captain Shakib Al Hasan took the Tigers to 259-5 by the end of play on Friday.

Shadman received some support from Soumya Sarkar (19), Mominul Haque (29) and Mohammad Mithun (29) before he was dismissed.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah closed out the day’s play on Friday.
