DSE, CSE witness downturn in early trading

Stocks lost ground Monday morning in skittish trading as investors mostly followed cautious stance amid ongoing quarterly earnings declaration session.

Following the previous day’s correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw positive trend while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened on negative trend amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 8.0 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse fell 40 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX fell 4.26 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 42 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 4.26 points or 0.07 per cent to reach at 5,809 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw negative trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 4.29 points or 0.19 per cent to reach at 2,183 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 2.12 points or 0.15 per cent to reach at 1,351 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 627 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 118 nudged higher, 83 traded lower and 56 remained unchanged.

Beximco was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 88 million changing hands, closely followed by CVO Petrochemicals Tk 58 million, Grameenphone Tk 42 million, Usmania Glass Tk 41 million and Eastern Lubricants Tk 19 million.

The port city bourse also saw negative trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-losing 42 points to stand at 17,874, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also fell 28 points to stand at 10,797 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 21 gained, 29 declined and 10 issues remained unchanged with Tk 18 million in turnover.
