Investors bet on Beximco stocks sans PSI

Ten top-traded cos capture 30pc transaction

The top 10-traded companies captured more than 30 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Tuesday, with Beximco topping the list for the third straight session.

Market operators said the investors continued their buying spree on Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) shares amid positive expectation.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 17.26 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 538 million. It was 7.56 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.

The Beximco's share price continued to soar despite the company informed that there is no undisclosed price sensitive information (PSI) for recent price hike.

The company's share price soared nearly 39 per cent or Tk 8.60 each within nine trading days to close at Tk 30.70 on Tuesday at the Dhaka bourse.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.35 for October-December, 2017 as against Tk 0.21 for October-December, 2016.

In six months, earnings per share were Tk 0.68 for July-December, 2017 as against Tk 0.53 for July-December, 2016.

Apart from Beximco, the most other active shares in terms of value included BRAC Bank, Keya Cosmetics, Unique Hotel & Resorts, Alif Manufacturing Company, Generation Next Fashions, Monno Ceramic Industries, Grameenphone, Mercantile Bank and IFAD Autos.

BRAC Bank followed next with shares worth Tk 301 million changing hands. The bank's share closed at Tk 106.10 each, losing 0.65 per cent over the previous session.

Keya Cosmetics was the third, with shares of Tk 292 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.18 per cent to close at Tk 10.70 each. It was also the day's top gainer.

Unique Hotel clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 171 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 59.20, losing 2.14 per cent over the previous day.

Alif Manufacturing Company emerged as fifth with shares of Tk 170 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 13.30 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

The turnover of Generation Next fashions was Tk 146 million. The company's share price gained 4.35 per cent to close at Tk 9.60 each on Tuesday.

Monno Ceramic was the seventh with shares worth Tk 143 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.19 per cent to close at Tk 154.40 each.

Grameenphone saw its shares worth nearly Tk 141 million changed hands. The lone listed mobile phone company's share price advanced 1.22 per cent to close at Tk 480.30 each.

The turnover of Mercantile Bank was Tk 129 million. The bank's share price closed at Tk 23.10 each, advancing 2.21 per cent.

IFAD Autos was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares worth Tk 124 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.80 per cent to close at Tk 124.10 each.
