Stocks start penultimate trading day positively

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses saw positive trend in early trading Wednesday, penultimate trading day of the week, as investors continued their buying appetite on sector-wise issues.

Following the previous day’s positive trend, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) nudged higher amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 15 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index of port city bourse rose 17 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX rose more than 13 points while CSE All Shares Price Index gained 20 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the main bourse went up by 13.16 points or 0.21 per cent to reach at 6,299 at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 4.04 points or 0.19 per cent to reach at 2,282.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 2.69 points or 0.19 per cent to stand at 1,393.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 770 million when the report was filed at 11:00am riding on Premier Cement as Roknoor Holdings (where Mr. Mohammed Amirul Haque is the MD of Roknoor Holdings and also a sponsor director of Premier Cement Mills), has expressed its intention to buy 3,643,080 shares of the company at prevailing market price through stock exchange within next 30 working days.

Of the issues traded till then, 46 advanced, 54 drifted lower and 69 remained unchanged.

Premier Cement was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 65 million changing hands, followed by BD Thai Aluminum Tk 46 million, Golden Harvest Agro Industries Tk 38 million, Legacy Footwear Tk 36 million and Zaheen Spinning Tk 22 million.

The port city bourse also saw positive trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index –CAPSI –advancing 20 points to stand at 19,485 points, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also gained 11 points to reach at 11,793 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 50 gained, 19 declined and 22 issues remained unchanged with Tk 28 million in turnover.
