Ten cos snare 32pc turnover

Fortune, Power Grid, BSC dominate the chart

Top ten-traded firms captured nearly 32 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday while Fortune Shoes continued to top the chart.

Market analysts said investors were active on both sides of Fortune Shoes shares after the company posted a 35 per cent earnings growth in January-March, 2019 quarter.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

In nine months for July 2018-March 2019, its EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for July 2017-March 2018.

According to statistics from the DSE, with 8.39 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Tuesday, generating a turnover of Tk 324 million, which was 7.47 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.33 billion on the day which was Tk 4.67 billion in the day before.

The company's share price closed at Tk 37.50 each on Tuesday, losing 4.10 per cent, after soaring 4.27 per cent in the previous session.

The company's share traded between Tk 27.70 and Tk 40.40 in the last one year.

The Fortune Shoes, which was listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.25 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 124.93 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.93 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 10.34 per cent and the general public 58.73 per cent as of March 31, 2019.

The state-run Power Grid Company followed next, with shares worth Tk 193 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 63.80, gaining 4.76 per cent over the previous day.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 179 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 51.10, advancing 1.79 per cent.

Esquire Knit Composite emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The company's share fell 2.04 per cent to close at Tk 48 each.

Monno Ceramic notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 122 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 253.40, soaring 5.98 per cent. It was also the day's highest gainer.

The turnover of Indo-Bangla Pharma was Tk 95 million. The company's share price rose 0.75 per cent to close at Tk 26.70 each.

Fine Foods featured a turnover of Tk 87 million. The company's share closed at Tk 45.30 each, shedding 3.62 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of National Tubes was Tk 81 million. The company's share price fell 1.20 per cent to close at Tk 123 each.

National Polymer featured a turnover of Tk 79 million. The company's share closed at Tk 104.50 each, losing 1.60 per cent over the previous session.
