Biman Bangladesh Airlines has got poor response from bidders as it moved to spread its wings to more destinations abroad.
The national flag carrier plans to bring on board two 737-800 aircraft to its fleet for six years on lease before October next year.
As such, it has invited Proposal/Offer for Dry Lease (only aircraft) of two 737-800 aircraft with winglets for a period of 72 months.
Against this backdrop, a well placed source in Biman said, "We have got four proposals from Singapore and the Netherlands.” He, however, declined to go into further details about this.
"The response is not satisfactory," a senior Biman official said, adding that he had expected more responses from bidders about this.
On the other hand, the Biman official pointed out, the airliner received eight proposals in search of their move to induct two aircraft just for eight months on wet lease.
Those aircraft are required to fill the gap after the early termination of the two that have been taken from Egypt air, he said, adding that those proposals are now at the evaluation stage.
Biman had expressed its need to induct these two aircraft with delivery schedule on or before 01 October of 2018.
Established in February 1972, the national flag carrier Biman is operating flights to seven domestic and 15 international destinations.
Out of the international destinations, Biman covers only two destinations in the SAARC countries, four in the South East Asia, eight in the Gulf and Middle-East and one in Europe.
Currently Biman has 13 aircraft in its fleet including four 777-300ER, two 777-200ER, one A330-200, four 737-800 and two Dash8-Q400 aircraft.
