The CACCI Conference 2019, an international summit of the apex trade bodies from Asia-Pacific countries, begins in the city today (Tuesday).

The two-day conference takes place in the city's Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon, aiming to create greater interaction among the business leaders through discussion and matchmaking sessions.

The Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) are jointly organising the 33rd edition of the summit for the first time in Bangladesh.

President of the CACCI Samir Modi and FBCCI president Sheikh Fazle Fahim made the announcement at a press conference in Dhaka on Monday evening.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim said the event would be an excellent platform to explore trade and investment opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Bangladesh is hosting the event for the first time, which reflects the country's growing importance in the respective region," said Mr Fahim, who is also the vice president of the CACCI.

Panel discussions focusing on a wide number of issues like entrepreneurship, sustainable growth and digital transformation, and business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking sessions will take place during the summit, he said.

The FBCCI will present Bangladesh's congenial investment climate before the delegates comprising representatives from 27 countries.

The FBCCCI, the apex trade body of Bangladesh, has been a member of the CACCI since 1990.

In his speech, Samir Modi said Bangladesh's market-based economy is considered as one of the fastest growing countries globally.

"It is the 41st largest in the world in nominal terms, and 30th largest by purchasing power parity," said the CACCI president, highlighting the importance of Bangladesh to foreign investors and traders.

At the end of the briefing, they launched a booklet on the conference.

Established in 1966, the CACCI is a regional platform of apex national chambers of commerce and industry, business associations and business enterprises in Asia and the Western Pacific. Trade bodies of 27 countries are affiliated with the nongovernmental organisation.
