Export and import between India and Bangladesh through Benapole land port resumed on Friday morning.

The activities at this port remained suspended since Thursday morning following  a strike by Benapole Customs Clearing & Forwarding Agents Association.

The C&F agents enforced the strike protesting the arrest of one of their colleagues on Thursday morning, halting export and import between the two neighbouring countries.

Earlier, a joint team of customs, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police raided an Indian truck and seized a single shooter gun and two bullets and arrested Mikhail Hossain, a member of Benapole Customs Clearing & Forwarding Agents Staff Association.

They called their indefinite strike off at 10.00 pm following an assurance by high officials that the case filed against Mikhail Hossain will be withdrawn.

The loading and unloading of goods also remained suspended at the important land port till Thursday evening due to the strike. Hundreds of trucks loaded with imported goods got stranded on both sides of the border as thousands of C&F workers blocked the Jessore-Benapole road in the morning and staged demonstrations in the port area.

Meanwhile, 40 Indian trucks loaded with imported goods from India entered Benapole port on Thursday night.
