Finance Summit on Emerging Bangladesh held

A Finance Summit, organized  by Lighthouse Bangladesh in association with Eastern Bank Ltd  was held on Saturday at The Westin Dhaka hotel in the city.

It aims to help take the economy forward by giving decision-makers, professionals, aspirants of the wealth management and investment industry and entrepreneurs an access to new ideas, solutions and innovations.

The summit offered a view of the industry, predictions and insights to help participants in forming their future strategies.  

Business leaders, corporate personalities, international experts in the field of economics, finance, investment strategy, product development, wealth management and IT attended the Summit among others.

Keynote papers were presented on the topic Emerging Bangladesh and Branding Bangladesh by K A M Majedur Rahman, Managing Director; Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE); Nuzhat Anwar, Senior Country Officer – Bangladesh, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Shaffat Ohid, Co-Founder and MD- Digital Tree Bangladesh.

 Panelists of the Summit also took part in discussion on topics like Financial Innovation, Industrialization and Sustainability, Capital Market and Opportunity, Financial Inclusion and Sustainable Development Goals, Corporate Governance and Financial Sector.

According to discussants the financial sector has changed considerably over the past decade and has witnessed significant growth in many aspects. The summit shed light on four components – Opportunities, Challenges, Achievements and Excellence. 

Speakers opined that the leadership is the key to help organizations navigate in an increasingly complex business world to drive performance, as well as strong and ethical governance and management practices by shared services models, outsourcing, and the impact of technology. These changes in the past decade have increased efficiency, but have also created challenges and disruptions. Financial intelligence and capacity according to the discussants is the foremost capability for any leader. The summit also analyzed the opportunities and challenges that were taken into consideration by the leaders in the sector to achieve success.

Among others, Ali Reza Iftekhar, MD and CEO, Eastern Bank Ltd. ;  Naser Ezaz, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank ;  Syed Mahbubur Rahman, MD  and CEO, Dhaka Bank ;  Faruq Mainuddin Ahmed, MD  and CEO, Trust Bank Ltd. ; Mominul Islam, MD  and CEO, IPDC Finance ;  Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, MD  and  CEO, Robi ;  Imram Rahman, Dean, School of Business, ULAB; Tina Jabeen, Ministry of ICT ;   Maliha M Quadir, Founder and  MD, Shohoz, ;Muhammad Abdul Momen, Director, BGMEA and  Professor, Finance, IBA, University of Dhaka spoke on the occasion.
