Only 2.12 per cent bank accounts in the country have internet banking facilities so far, according to the latest statistics of the central bank.
It showed that the number of total bank accounts stood at 87.17million at the end of June, also the last month of the past fiscal year (FY17), this year. Of them, only 1.84 million have internet banking facilities.
No state-owned commercial banks or specialised development banks have any account with internet banking facilities.
Some 4.37 per cent accounts of the private commercial banks have internet banking facilities while the ratio is 44.50 per cent for the foreign commercial banks operating in the country.
Central banks statistics also showed that the annual transaction of the internet banking stood at Tk 357.53 billion in the past fiscal year while the amount was Tk 255.24 billion in FY16.
