Shippers’ Council of BD attends ASA meeting in KL

The annual meeting of Asian Shippers’ Alliance (ASA) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 25-26 November, 2019. The meeting was organized by Malaysian National Shippers’ Council.

A four-member delegation of Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) headed by its Chairman, Md. Rezaul Karim attended the meeting.

Other members were Senior Vice Chairman Md. Ariful Ahsan & Directors Arzu Rahman Bhuiyan & Afsar Uddin Ahmed.

The meeting discussed about Trade Situation and Changes in Locations of Manufacturing Facilities; Freight Market and Freight Rate Trends; Impact of Increase of Concentration in the Market by 3 shipping mega alliance and The Hongkong seaport alliance.

The delegation also visited the Port Klang (West and North Ports) of Malaysia. Chairman, Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) & who is also the Vice Chairman of ASA Md. Rezaul Karim took part in the discussion and stated that Bangladesh has achieved the eligibility of graduation from LDC’s to a developing Country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In the meeting, he mentioned the necessary steps of the government to increase the capacity of Bangladesh ports and modernize them to meet the challenge of sustainability as a developing country.

Representatives from Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, Macau Shippers’ Association, Thai National Shippers’ Council, Malaysian National Shippers’ Council, Indonesia National Shippers’ Council, China Shippers’ Council and Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council also attended the meeting.
