UK businesses to help Bangladesh achieve SDG

The Prime Minister’s Principal Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG),  Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad was the chief guest at a breakfast event  co-hosted by Alison Blake, the  British High Commissioner and Francoise de Maricourt, Chairman of the British Business Group (BBG) and CEO of HSBC at the High Commissioner’s Residence in Dhaka recently, said a statement.

Mr Azad spoke about the 'excellent economic and development progresses' Bangladesh had made in recent years and how he looked forward to this continuing as the country attained middle income status by 2021 and developed country status by 2041.  He outlined the efforts the Government was taking to improve the business environment such as the One Stop Service.  

On Bangladesh and UK business relations, Mr. Azad urged British businesses to invest in sectors like infrastructure, logistics, power and energy, RMG, and high value sectors such as pharmaceuticals, ICT and financial services.Hesaid that  the British Business Group was a strong partner for  Bangladesh and a respected  voice within the business community.

Francois de Maricourt said that he sees great potential for UK businesses in Bangladesh.  “The British Business Group looks forward tohelping Bangladesh improve the business environment for British companies operating in Bangladesh.”  Alison Blake said that growth for UK-Bangladesh trade would be good for both the UK and Bangladesh and help Bangladesh’s future development.

Among the guests at the event were the Members of the British Business Group, representing prominent British Businesses operating in Bangladesh.

Also present at the event were representatives from the Department of International Trade (DFID) and others from the British High Commission.
