UP elections

THE death toll during the ongoing UP elections is shocking and unfortunate. Nobody seems to take responsibility for such untoward incidents, not even the Election Commission. The common people of the country are regularly disappointed with the happenings during elections and there seems to be no respite for the innocent public. People rely on the Election Commission for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during elections, but the Commission has repeatedly failed to do so. A free and fair election is an indispensable precondition for democracy and we are not being able to establish the same and as a result scores of innocent people are losing their lives. The death toll is rising and the number of injured has exceeded thousands. The government must do everything within its means to curb the spate of violence during election, bring death toll down to nil and restore an ambience of peace and harmony during all elections in the country.
