Bangladesh budget will likely cross the Tk 5.0 trillion-plus mark in fiscal year 2019-20, up by over 11 per cent from that of the last fiscal.

The budget totalling Tk 5.24 trillion and 9.5 billion is due to be placed before parliament on June 13, according to a finance ministry projection.

Should the budget of this size for the next fical be announced actually, it will be up by Tk 603.77 billion, or over 11.50 per cent, from the current budget of Tk 4.64 trillion and 5.73 billion, which was rolled out before parliament on June 6, 2018.

The revenue collection target for the next fiscal has been set at Tk 3.78 trillion, of which the National Board of Revenue will gather Tk 3.25 trillion, the projection shows.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has already held pre-budget discussions with economists and others, local media reports say.

As advised by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he is also supposed to discuss various issues with his predecessor, AMA Muhith, who placed his last and 12th budget as finance minister in last calendar year.

Fresh from being elected to its third term, the Awami League government has planned such size of the budget to fast-track implementation of the mega projects announced in its previous terms.
