Bangladeshi nationals among 9 dead as Europe-bound migrant boat catches fire

A boat carrying 52 migrants of different nationalities, including Bangladeshi nationals, capsized in the Mediterranean Sea following a fire recently.

The boat, which was headed for Europe from Libya, capsized off the coast of Tunisia on last February 15.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya said the accident claimed lives of nine migrants and most of the deceased were Bangladeshi citizens.

The embassy said the rest 43 migrants, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, were rescued by Tunisian naval forces.

One of the rescued Bangladeshi migrants is reportedly in critical condition, the embassy said.
