Lightning strikes kill three in Sirajganj, Natore

At least three people were killed and four others injured in separate lightning strikes in Sirajganj and Natore districts early Saturday.

In Sirajganj, two workers were killed and three others injured in a lightning strike at Ramail village in Ullapara upazila around 1:30 am.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Zabbar, 37, son of Mahir Fakir and Idris Ali, 35, son of Fazle Sheikh, resident of Roghudighi village in the upazila, reports UNB.

Dewan Kowshik Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station, said the lighting struck the workers during storm when they were sleeping in a temporary shed in a paddy field after harvesting paddy, leaving the duo dead on the spot and three others injured.

In Natore, a man died and another sustained injuries in a lightning strike at Galimpur in Bagatipara upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hasnat Bhulu.

Moinul, sub-inspector of Bagatipara Police Station, said the lightning hit Bhulu and Rabbi at 2:00am while they were guarding a Litchi orchard, leaving Bhulu dead and Rabbi injured.

The storm that swept Sadar, Boraigram and Bagatipara upazil as damaged houses and uprooted trees. The storm also damaged mango and litchi orchards in the upazilas, said locals.
