Tokyo stocks were mixed on Thursday morning as concerns about a protracted US government shutdown was offset by investors buying on dips following shares'recent declines.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 86.91 points, or 0.42 per cent, from Wednesday to 20,506.81.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 0.07 points, or 0.00 per cent, at 1,547.10, reports AP.

Oil and coal product, land transportation, and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that declined the most, while metal product, securities, and bank-linked issues led notable gainers by the morning break.
