Two of the 10 workers who suffered severe burn injuries in a fire at a salt factory in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram died on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Didar Alam, 34, of Satgaria Para in Pashchim Gamdandi union of Boalkhali, and Mohammad Nurul Alam, 32, son of late Sirajul Islam of Sattar Majhi Bari in neighbouring Patiya upazila.

They succumbed to their injuries at the Burn Unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) between 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin of the CMCH police camp.

The fire broke out around 11:00 am on Thursday at Confidence Salt Ltd in the Pashchim Gamdandi area while workers were installing a generator, leaving at least 10 workers injured.

The injured were taken to the CMCH Burn Unit, where two of them died while undergoing treatment.

The remaining eight workers are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Preliminary findings suggest the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit.

However, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
