The government has released Tk 12.50 billion to pay remittance and export incentives, according to sources.
Cash incentives of some Tk 10 billion and Tk 2.5 billion were released for remittance beneficiaries and local exporters, respectively, through separate orders issued by the Finance Division recently.
This is the third instalment of such incentives allocated for the current financial year.
The government currently offers such incentives for remittance and export earnings. Remittances sent by expatriates through legal channels are eligible for a 2.5 per cent incentive.
The Finance Division has set certain conditions for receiving export incentives. The fund will be provided to banks, and they cannot use it for any other purpose.
Both banks and incentive receivers have to follow the existing policy strictly. Otherwise, legal action will be taken.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) will provide the incentive as per the demand made by banks to pay exporters.
Export-oriented sectors, such as ready-made garment, frozen shrimp and other fish, leather items, and jute and jute products, enjoy such incentives, according to an official Finance Division order issued recently.
Meanwhile, a special 1.0 per cent cash incentive support fund for the apparel industry has been included in the latest instalment.
The government reduced export cash incentive rates for all 43 categories by up to 50 per cent for FY25.
