Vietnam imported more than 3.1 million tons of plastic worth roughly 3.9 billion US dollars in the first six months of this year, posting a year-on-year rise of 5.3 per cent in volume and a decrease of 11.1 per cent in value, according to its Ministry of Industry and Trade on Wednesday.
Between January and June, the country spent over $3.2 billion importing plastic products, up 5.4 per cent from the same period last year, according to the ministry.
Its largest suppliers of plastic and plastics products included China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and the United States, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
In 2019, Vietnam imported nearly 6.4 million tons of plastic totaling more than $9 billion, up 14 per cent and down 0.8 per cent respectively from the previous year.
