The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) has expressed deeply concern over the recent incident at United International University (UIU), which has led the university to suspend academic activities indefinitely.

According to a statement, the association said, “This situation has negatively impacted students, faculty members, and administrative staff alike.”

“APUB firmly believes that any student-related issue or legitimate demand should be communicated in writing to the university authority for resolution. If no logical resolution is found, the matter can be formally reported to the relevant stakeholders’ organisation and regulatory bodies— namely, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education. Under no circumstances should the academic environment be disrupted or halted due to unexpected incidents,” it said.

“It must be remembered that private university students rely heavily on the hard-earned financial resources of their parents to pursue their education. Time is of the essence, and achieving academic qualifications within the stipulated timeframe through regular study is crucial. Any delay could result in setbacks in the global competitive arena.”

“The discipline and reputation of students in private university campuses, both at home and abroad, are well-regarded. To prevent third-party provocation, disruption of the academic atmosphere, campus closures, or tragic incidents such as loss of life, students must remain vigilant. At the same time, it is equally important to uphold academic dedication, respect for faculty, and the good name of the institution.”

The APUB also expressed hope that the current situation will be resolved quickly and amicably. In this regard, a tolerant, lawful, and responsible approach from all concerned is imperative. “APUB earnestly seeks the wholehearted cooperation of all parties to maintain a peaceful and uninterrupted academic environment on university campuses.”
