The Met Office has forecast squally weather over the northern Bay of Bengal, the country's coast, and four seaports due to the influence of a low-pressure area.

On Friday, meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque said the warning signals at the seaports will remain in force until the next day.

“The low-pressure area is centred over the region between Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and adjoining Bihar. Although it has weakened somewhat, it remains active over those areas."

According to a weather warning issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a steep pressure gradient persists over the northwestern Bay of Bengal due to the low-pressure system.

Squally winds may sweep across the northern Bay, adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, and the seaports.

As a result, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been advised to keep Local Warning Signal No. 3 hoisted.

In its regular weather bulletin, the Met Office said that during the 24 hours commencing at 9am on Friday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at most places over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and at many places over the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.

Moderately heavy rainfall may also occur at places across the country, the bulletin added.
