United Medical College Hospital organised a public awareness campaign on Thursday (June 11) to mark Global Fatty Liver Day, using art as a medium to promote awareness about liver health, says a media release.
The programme was held at the hospital's premises and featured six artists from different parts of the country.
Fatty liver disease is among the most common health conditions worldwide, but awareness about its causes, complications and prevention remains limited in Bangladesh, the release added.
As part of the initiative, the participating artists created and displayed artworks depicting various aspects of fatty liver disease to help communicate health-related messages to the public. The live art session began in the morning and continued throughout the day, with the completed works exhibited in the evening.
The event also included a continuing medical education (CME) programme, educational activities, basic health screenings and public awareness initiatives focused on liver health and preventive care.
Speaking on the occasion, Ariful Hoque, AGM, Business Development of United Medical College Hospital, said, “Through this initiative, we aimed to create a meaningful connection between art and healthcare. While doctors work to heal and improve lives, artists have the unique ability to capture attention, evoke emotions, and communicate important messages to society. By bringing these two disciplines together, we hope to raise awareness about fatty liver disease in a way that is both engaging and memorable.”
The programme was inaugurated by Mohammad Faizur Rahman, CEO of United Healthcare; Abu Raihan Al Beruni, CFBO of United Healthcare; and Dr Azharul Islam Khan, Director of Medical Services, along with physicians from relevant departments.
