As we all see, Bangladesh has been going through massive shifts over the last decade, and the lifestyle has also changed a great deal. The digitalisation, rapid development, monetisation of daily lives and the demand for materialistic things have brought about significant changes in the whole system.
The country has had a tradition, a culture and an individualism which are on the verge of being lost. As the days pass, a trend emerges among all classes of people, characterised by a tendency towards consumerism, with individuals setting trends and constantly striving.
Humans are often driven to accumulate wealth, spending more than they earn, and pursuing things that are not always necessary.
Still on it because someone else is after that, trying to make social validations; increasingly driven to showcase what they've got. Everything is done to keep up with what others are doing, but not for one's peace of mind.
This digital life has led us to compare ourselves with others, chasing life and being someone rather than oneself. The influencers are influencing so much that followers are lost.
People are unlearning what they grew up learning and immersing themselves into something that they do not need. The line between real life and digital performance is becoming increasingly blurred. Amid these, they have forgotten the real luxuries of life-the habits we need in our lives.
Our office hours from 9 to 5 are a very long time. We invest a lot of time in these eight hours. Just imagine, if you have a morning when you don't have to rush. A slow and steady morning, you enjoy the sunrise, do some yoga, prepare breakfast, murmuring a tune, and make your coffee.
Md Imran is a freelance salesperson who has to attend his office almost every day. The sales department works differently; there is a fixed hour, but on paper, in reality, a salesperson has to work 10 to 12 hours a day, depending on the target. "I have a busy schedule. Once I used to have time for reading comics, but now I rarely have any time for that. Though I have a huge collection of comics, you can say that collection has been my new hobby in this busy life," says Mr Imran.
The life of Mr Imran might sound hard, but when you balance your work and personal life, it is possible. If you go to bed early and wake up early, you may have that luxury morning at your hands since you cannot skip going to the office, right?
Take advantage of everyday nature! When was the last time you enjoyed the sunsets? It's a pity that the city hardly has any places to enjoy the sunset.
Yet there's also a bare minimum opportunity to do so, whether you are stuck at your workplace, in traffic, or at home, where you cannot view the sunsets! So, you have to make time. Or plant trees, will you?
Trees will also bring birds chirping at dawn and dusk. You can also provide them food and water, for which they will be your everyday guests!
Holding on to your hobbies is peace of mind. Are you a bookworm? Sidelining your gazettes, reading a book with concentration is wholesome. Just bring out 30 minutes a day to read a book. Or if you consider cooking, painting, singing, playing music or anything else your hobby, practising it every day or even continuing it is a luxury. Many lose interest. But consider doing it. It's a pleasure you will not get anywhere else.
Being among people is nice. But a quiet moment throughout the day is the cherry on top. Solitude soothes your heart, heals you from the inside and lets you know about yourself.
It is evident that it cannot be understood from the outside but can only be felt within. Writing to yourself also enhances one's energy.
Spending quality time with your loved ones is a precious luxury. Being with your partner, or with your family or friends over a cup of coffee, a khichuri night on rainy days is a luxury on this earth.
You accept or not, think wisely. Being with people who don't care is worse, but being with your loved ones for a moment is something else. Time and affection are rare gifts, dear!
Being simple, leading a simple life is also a blessing, where you are not in a position to flaunt what you have. Just enjoying what you have and taking its advantage.
Many might speak behind you, What a blurry life you are leading, but let them. You are not here to impress anyone. You are here to make yourself a better person, give yourself a good life, and bring kindness to your surroundings. Developing this sense is expensive.
It is often seen that people follow other influencers or trends while travelling. Doing vlogs, taking pictures every minute, clicking portraits, etc.
Just once, try to breathe. Don't only take photos to post on your social media handles, but give yourself a treat where you are. If you are a vlogger or a photographer, and you are there for it, then it is a different discussion. But when you are travelling to heal, be there, with the ones you love, with nature.
The feeling of being content is the utmost luxury anybody could ever deny. When you have your way on your own, that freedom to be yourself, the choices you made and the confidence to accept make you the winner. You shouldn't be running on what others are doing; instead, set up your rulebook and be proud of it. Make sure that it is harmless! Of course, keep yourself up to date, but just be yourself! Being yourself is a luxury.
