368 killed, 518 injured in 358 road accidents in June: JKS

At least 368 people were killed and 518 others injured in 358 road accidents across the country in June, said a passenger welfare association on Sunday.

Besides, the incidents of road mishaps saw a 56 per cent increase in June compared to than that of May. Casualties reached 57.3 per cent while the injuries saw a 43.8 per cent rise than the month of May.   

The monitoring cell of the passenger welfare association conducted the study based on the information of national newspapers and other media. 

Among the injured in road accidents, some 162 were drivers, 125 road transport workers, 113 pedestrians, 62 women, 57 members of law enforcement agencies, 28 children, 23 students, 11 member of political parties, seven teachers, one physician, one freedom fighter and one engineer, the study added.

Among the dead in the road accidents—116 were drivers, 98 pedestrians, 46 transports workers, 21 children, 19 students, eight politicians, seven teachers, one physician, one freedom fighter, five member of police and two BGB members.  

Of the accidents, 48.6 per cent road accidents happened on local highways while 31.6 per cent on national highways and 13.9 per cent on other roads, it added.

Of the total accidents, 2.8 were reported in the capital Dhaka, it mentioned.
