The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun to prepare an inventory of assets inside two flats belonging to former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed in Dhaka’s Gulshan as part of a court-ordered attachment process.
Officials of the ACC, accompanied by police personnel, entered the two apartments around 10:30 am on Sunday in the presence of an executive magistrate, reports bdnews24.com.
ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam said that a joint team led by Deputy Director Mashiur Rahman entered the flats with court approval and in the presence of an executive magistrate to prepare an inventory of the assets inside.
Mashiur, who heads the ACC investigation team, said: “Entry into the apartments has been completed. The inventory process is now underway. It will take two days to finish.”
The two apartments are located on Plot No. 11, Northwest (B) Block, Road No. 66 in Gulshan.
Apartment A-7 measures 3,747sqft, while Apartment B-7 covers 3,832sqft, bringing the combined area to 7,579sqft.
Under an order of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges’ Court, the director of the ACC’s Asset Management Unit was appointed receiver of the apartments, with responsibility for their control, management, supervision and maintenance.
However, the apartments had remained locked, preventing the receiver from entering them.
Following an ACC application, the court on Apr 29 authorised entry into the apartments and preparation of an inventory of the assets inside, even in the absence of the persons concerned.
The ACC told the court that the receiver could not perform his duties because the apartments were locked. It was also not possible to make them suitable for renting out.
The court subsequently allowed the receiver to enter the apartments in the presence of an executive magistrate.
To implement the order, Md Niloy Rahman, assistant commissioner (land) of the Gulshan Revenue Circle, was assigned as an executive magistrate.
In a separate notice, the ACC asked Javed and the building manager, Imran Hossain, to be present at the specified time.
According to court documents, the attachment order was issued on Nov 18, 2025. A receiver was appointed on Jan 12 this year, and on Apr 29 the court authorised the opening of the locks and entry by the receiver for preparation of an inventory.
A joint ACC team is investigating allegations of corruption, illicit wealth accumulation and money laundering against Javed, as well as individuals and entities linked to him.
On Jan 13, acting on an ACC petition, a court ordered the seizure of 330 houses, flats and apartments owned by Javed in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, India, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to the ACC, the value of those assets, along with his investments in two companies in the United States, is approximately Tk 23.21 billion.
On Feb 26, a court also ordered the seizure of 518 flats and apartments registered in his name in the United Kingdom.
In its petition, the ACC estimated the value of those assets at £271.85 million.
In March 2025, a court ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts and the seizure of shares in 23 companies linked to him.
At various stages of the same investigation, additional bank accounts and beneficial owner (BO) accounts belonging to him and related persons were also frozen.
Meanwhile, in a case involving allegations that Tk 250 million was laundered abroad through loans obtained from United Commercial Bank, a Chattogram court in March this year framed charges against Javed, his wife and 34 others, ordering the trial to begin.
The court also issued arrest warrants for the absconding accused.
In various petitions, the ACC has alleged that Javed acquired assets through irregularities and corruption and subsequently laundered money abroad. However, the allegations have yet to be judicially determined.
Javed has previously denied allegations concerning his overseas assets, saying they were purchased with income from legitimate business activities. He has also claimed that the actions taken against him are “politically motivated”.
