Another child with measles symptoms has died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), taking the death toll there to 24.

In a statement on Monday morning, Dr Mohammad Mynuddin Khan, assistant director for administration at the hospital, said the child died around 8:30 pm on Sunday, reports bdnews.com.

The 7-month-old was from Ishwarganj Upazila and had been admitted to the hospital on Apr 28 with measles symptoms.

A total of 23 children were newly admitted in the last 24 hours, while 82 children are currently receiving treatment in the isolation ward.

Faridul Islam, a relative of a child admitted to the isolation ward, said: “First, my 11-month-old child developed a fever and then a cold. When we brought him to the hospital, the doctors told us he had measles. The child has been admitted here for 11 days, but he is not getting better due to a lack of proper treatment.

“He still cannot eat properly and remains restless all the time. If the doctors performed their duties properly and medicines were available, the sick children would recover quickly.”

Dr Mynuddin said a total of 1,069 children with measles symptoms had been admitted to MMCH from Mar 17 to Monday morning. Of them, 963 have been discharged.

In the last 24 hours, 22 children recovered and left the hospital.
