Bangladesh reports 61 Covid deaths, 1,914 new cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 61 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 11,705.

The caseload rose by 1,914 in a 24-hour count on Tuesday to 765,596, according to the latest government data.

Another 3,870 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 695,032.

As many as 21,984 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 8.71 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 90.78 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.53 per cent.

Globally, over 153.57 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.21 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019, reports bdnews24.com.
