BD registers 2,611 Covid-19 cases, 32 deaths in 24 hours

Bangladesh registered 2,611 Covid-19 cases and 32 deaths in the 24 hours to 8:00am on Saturday.

The new cases and deaths bring the total to 255,113 and 3,365 respectively, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at a virtual media briefing at 2:30pm.

A total of 1,020 people also recovered from the contagion during the 24 hours under review, taking the total recovery tally to 146,604 the DGHS said.

The virtual briefing was also told that a total of 11,737 Covid-19 tests were conducted during the same period of time, taking the total tests so far to 1,249,560.

Number of tests in Bangladesh is said to be much lower considering its total population and in comparison with many other countries.

Bangladesh is currently the fifth hardest hit nation in Asia and 15th in the world, according to data available with worldometer. info, an information portal.

In global perspective, Bangladesh is among the countries that reported over 0.25 million positive cases so far.

Globally, 19,561,395 people have caught coronavirus, 724,381 died and 12,558,050recovered as of 2:43 pm, with the US becoming the worst-hit country with 5,095,748 cases and 164,104 deaths, according to the worldometer.info.
