Bhorer Kagoj denies ‘misleading’ reports on editor Shyamal Dutta

Bengali-language daily Bhorer Kagoj has termed as “misleading” the media reports on its editor, Shyamal Dutta.

“Shyamal Dutta is in Dhaka and continues to perform his professional duties as usual,” said News Editor of the newspaper Ikhtiar Uddin in a statement on Tuesday.

“We urge everyone to refrain from spreading baseless information without proper verification,” he added.

Earlier in the day, various media outlets ran reports that Dutta, along with his family, tried to travel to India but was stopped by immigration police in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura Land Port.

Immigration police officials were quoted as saying that Dutta, also the general secretary of the National Press Club, was stopped because his name is on the banned list.
