BRTA lodges 864 cases in Jan for violating traffic rules

Mobile courts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed 864 cases against vehicles and realised over Tk 1.925 million in fines for violating traffic rules in January 2020.

The BRTA conducts mobile court drives regularly across the country with a view to bringing discipline and order on the roads.

Apart from this, the courts also jailed 11 persons for violating traffic rules in 133 drives in the first month of the calendar year while no vehicles were dumped, according to a monthly report of the transport regulator.

The authority lodged the cases as per the new Road Transport Act 2018 and other laws. The new law was enforced on the first day of November 2019.

The report also stated that the mobile courts filed 750 cases against vehicles and realised over Tk 1.13 million in fines for violating traffic rules during drives in December 2019.

Moreover, the courts also jailed 15 persons for violating traffic rules in 145 drives in December, while no vehicles were dumped.

Mobile courts of the BRTA filed 446 cases against vehicles, and realised over Tk 517,000 in fines for violating traffic rules during drives in November 2019, showed the data.

The courts of the transport regulator instituted 1,239 cases against vehicles, and realised around Tk 2.67 million in fines for violating traffic rules during drives in October 2019.

Besides, the courts also jailed 18 people and dumped four vehicles in 164 drives, revealed the data.

The mobile courts lodged cases against 3,948 vehicles, and realised around Tk 6.12 million in fines for violating traffic rules during drives in April, 2019.

Besides, the courts also jailed 31 people and dumped 52 vehicles in 207 drives.

In February 2019, the BRTA filed cases against 2,509 vehicles and realised Tk 4.32 million in fines in 172 drives across the country.

Besides, it sent 44 people to jails and dumped five vehicles.

In January 2019, the BRTA filed 3,367 cases and realised Tk 5.45 million in 241 drives across the country.

The court sent 17 people to jails and dumped eight vehicles, according to the data.
