CAAB suspends operations at Chattogram airport amid nearing cyclone

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has suspended all operations of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport from Saturday 4:00pm until Sunday 6:00am to avert any damage due to the nearing cyclone Bulbul.

Besides, CAAB will stop domestic flights to Barisal and Cox’s Bazar from this evening. 

The cyclone is approaching the coastal areas of Bangladesh and is expected to hit the country by this evening.

All passengers of a Dubai-bound flight, scheduled to depart from Shah Amanat Airport at 8:15pm, will be brought to Dhaka. The flight will depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) this afternoon.

Biman authorities said that the Dubai-bound passengers will be brought to the capital by a Biman aircraft.  

“We have decided to suspend all operations of Shah Amanat International Airport from 4:00pm today until 6:00am tomorrow due to the storm. But all kind of activities of other airports in the country will remain in operation till further notice,” CAAB Member (Operations and Planning) Air Commodore Khalid Hossain said.

But anyone can use Osmani International Airport of Sylhet in case of emergency as it will remain open 24 hours during this situation, he added.

The activities of other airports in Dhaka, Barisal, Cox’s Bazar and Jashore will remain normal as ususal.

Meanwhile, two domestic flights of Biman and one flight of Novoair have been cancelled.

Biman has canceled flights BG415 and BG416 of Dhaka-Chattogram route.

Novoair has cancelled the Dhaka-Jashore flight scheduled to take off at 6:00pm.
