Care brings women safety app for RMG workers

Care Bangladesh, in association with UN Women and Colors of Benneton, has launched a mobile app on women safety for RMG workers to resolve sexual incidents in the sector.  

The app named ‘Suraksha' was launched aiming to protect the Readymade Garments (RMG) female worker from the unexpected and untoward sexual incidents.

The launching ceremony was held on Tuesday at an event styled Dialogue on Gender Equality at Workplace: Success and Challenges of Career Advancement at a city hotel.

The dialogue was organised as part of piloting project of “Empowering for Women Garment Workers through Career Mobility, Finical inclusion and Reduced Sexual harassment and Violence”

Speakers at the function highlighted the capacity building training programmes of female workers to develop their leadership role in the RMG sector as only 4.0 per cent of them reached the supervisory position.

Mahmuda Sharmeen Benu, additional secretary of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, and Md Ashraf Shameen, additional secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, attended the ceremony as the special guests.

Zia Chowdhury, Country Director of Care Bangladesh, and Shoko Ishikawa, country representative of UN Women Bangladesh, also spoke on the occasion.

High level government officials, development partners, NGOs, and civil society, private sector representatives and RMG workers, were also present at the event.
